1.The 'Paradox'

If the parts of a ship are replaced, bit-by-bit, is it still the same ship? 'Ship of Theseus' is probably the only Indian film to delve into the deep cerebral fields of Philosophical Paradox. How you ask? 'Ship of Theseus' explores questions of identity, justice, beauty, meaning and death through an experimental photographer, an ailing monk and a young stockbroker. Well, we don't know of many Indian Films trying to engage the audience in such mind-bending areas through stories that could very well be of those among us.

Thermodynamics concurs "Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed; it can only change be changed from one form to another"

From the teaser it seems 'Ship of Theseus' asks the all important question - Do we as human beings have the right destroy energies we didn't create in the first place?

2.The other 'Gandhi'

Well, To Be Honest, it's hard to miss an all important Gandhi in India...But we did. Anand Gandhi was a virtual unknown before he shot 'Ship of Theseus'. It's only when 'Ship of Theseus' won at all the major film festivals that movie buffs across India took notice. In a recent interview, Anand said “I don't concur with filmmakers unwilling to engage in discourse on their films, who leave it to the audience to draw their own conclusions – maybe they fear their narrative will be overshadowed by a bunch of interpretations. For me, people discussing my film is an expansion of its scope”. Discussion is paramount in cinema and the Indian film industry rarely had films that were discussed in a significant way – from a societal point of view. 'Ship of Theseus' is. 'Ship of Theseus' will. As a society, films that make us uncomfortable are censored and more or less banned. 'Ship of Theseus' will change all of that. For Good. It's for this it could be called a 'Landmark' Feature.

3.The Better Half

Who doesn't know AAMIR KHAN. Who doesn't know that he is probably the only 'Actor' who is a Big Star and has had a critical role in shaping Indian Cinema over the last two decades or so. However, it's Kiran Rao (also Khan) we are interested in talking about. Why you ask? She's Iron Lady behind Ship of Theseus and is the 'Official Presenter' (not a producer) of the film. In the film fraternity, Kiran is known as an 'Indie Diva' whose not just limited to attending Page 3 Extravaganzas with her all powerful Husband. She directed a wonderful little film called 'Dhobi Ghat' which got her tonnes of notoriety both in India and the International Markets. Kiran recently spoke about her association with Anand Gandhi and Ship of Theseus “'Nothing prepared me for how much I would like the film itself. The film connected with me very deeply on every level. I think it was made with a lot of integrity and they tried to communicate very unique ideas at different levels of filmmaking. So it's a film that you can watch again and again. I was totally amazed by the film. Despite having heard of it from so many people, it more than exceeded my expectations”. Well, we all movie buffs would like to Thank You Ms. Rao (and Mrs. Khan) for believing in 'Ship of Theseus' and Indian Cinema's true potential.

4.The Force

They've been instrumental in shocking Indian cine-goers ever since they choose to distribute 'Khosla Ka Ghosla'. They've affected India's Youth through movies like 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Kai Po Che'. We are talking about none other than UTV motion pictures, helmed by Ronnie Screwala and Siddharth Roy Kapor. For a movie made on an extremely low budget, it's a monumental achievement to get UTV to back it and release it in major Indian Cities. Plus, We (the audience) can also vote and ask for 'Ship of Theseus' to be released in smaller cities. So what are you waiting for???Christmas???Vote now! -

5. The Humour

India produces a lot of low life narcissist Indie cinema that nobody wants to watch…except for 3 people involved in making the film. Loads of film makers make anything they perceive to be entertaining and soul shattering and put it on You Tube. Ship of Theseus is meant for You. The Audience. The Paying Junta. For a film that comes across as astoundingly serious, it is surprisingly (extremely) humorous and above all delightfully ENTERTAINING and VISUALLY groundbreaking. Cinema is meant to primarily ENTERTAIN us. But at the same time if it can affect the Social Fabric in a significant way then it completes the full circle (As Monks put it). And that is what Ship of Theseus is all about - Completing the Full Circle - In Indian Cinema…and Life.
